Why Are Oils So Strong?

It can be hard to understand how one tiny little bottle is so potent. I have felt that way about Lemon when using it in my tea, Peppermint in many flavoring experiences, and Basil while making spaghetti. It isn't just while using oils internally or for cooking, though. Something everybody should keep in mind when using oils is that each drop is very, very concentrated and should be used properly. With Young Living Essential oils, you don't need much to get the full effect!

Oil Revolution

One of the biggest ways to take advantage of all that Young Living has to offer is to place an Essential Rewards order as a member. You earn points, which can be redeemed to get most products free except for shipping. A newer supplement to that program is the O.I.L. promotion. This is an explanation of the way it works:

Personally, I love this promotion. Most months I get Thieves Household Cleaner and 1-2 other products, depending on what I'm getting low on. This month it was NingXia Red, but  I have been stocking up on everything on this list, while also building points to redeem for more expensive oils like Helichrysum and Frankincense. Considering how much our family loves these products, which we use on a daily basis, it only makes sense to participate! I'd love to see you join in the O.I.L. Revolution, too!

Basil - More Than Just Flavor

Dried basil has always been a staple in our pantry. We absolutely love to cook as close to from scratch as we can, and that normally means adding a variety of herbs and spices. Being a Young Living distributor, I thought it would be fun to try Basil oil in place of the dried herbs one day. I put two drops in our huge can of tomato sauce (6lbs 9oz), stirred it in with the other spices, tasted, and gagged! WOW! This stuff packs a powerful punch. I quickly learned that our family most likes Basil if we use less than one drop in a batch. As we learned and adjusted, we enjoyed it more and more in our cooking. The flavor is great as long as you don't overdo it, and the absence of the chunky leaves in our food makes a more enjoyable texture. I was happy with the feeling that I was taking care of my family the best I could by replacing some other products I didn't know the origin of. What I didn't know is that Basil naturally supports health and wellness!* My intent was to improve one aspect of my family's health, and Young Living helped me to support more.

As We Prepare for School

This year our three oldest will be working on their studies, the fourth is allowed to join in but not required, and the youngest will simply play. As you can imagine our home is often a flurry of activity, which is sometimes not the most beneficial environment for learning. This year we will be utilizing essential oils to promote a calm, stable, and uplifting environment. Whether we diffuse or use topically (depending on oil and day), we are confident the five oils pictured above will help to encourage calm through our school day.

Living With Abundance

It wasn't that long ago that I won a challenge sponsored by somebody upline in my team. When I first opened the package I was excited to see an oil I had never tried before, and I was also a little unsure of it. The next time I was on the computer I thanked Clarinda for the oil, then I looked for ways to allow Abundance to help enhance my body, mind, and spirit.

The first thing I noted when looking is that Abundance is marked for topical and aromatic use. I opened the bottle and inhaled deeply. I will admit to not being the greatest at picking out smells from an oil, but Cinnamon stuck out most for me. I smiled as I let the entirety of the experience permeate into me. Yes, this was an oil that I could enjoy! Over the next couple of days I experimented between topically applying Abundance and inhaling it. I found that both lifted my spirits, and I found that I really enjoyed Abundance when I prayed or wanted to feel spiritually closer to God.

People define abundance differently and feel that they have had abundance in different areas after using the oil. I feel that using Abundance has helped me to better see the greatness and abundant blessings in my life.

Freely You Have Received, Freely Give - The Basis of My Business and Free Giveaway

When I joined Young Living my goal was to stop pumping chemicals and steroids into my middle daughter. Oils helped our family so much over the next few months, I started to share our success with others, and my secret weapons became more known. Something I started just for our family became a business, and this past month, I was promoted to Star!

Recently I have been asked about the basis of my business. That is easy. My business is based on safety, honesty, integrity, and giving. I try to give with this verse in mind: " Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give." - Matthew 10:8. I cannot do the first half of the verse, but I surly can do the second. Oils cannot raise the dead, but I can, without a doubt, freely give oils, which may help support healing.

That's a great answer, but why don't people hear a lot about the giving portion? It is hard for me to intentionally tell people about what I have given. There have been times I shared on my personal facebook page, but even doing that felt like I was asking for people to tell me that I was doing a good thing. Personally, I do not feel that I need thanks or acknowledgement for giving something after having been so thoroughly blessed. Keeping that in mind, I do understand where my friends, family, and readers may wish to know more about the giving part of my business. So far this year alone, I have given full bottles of Rosemary, Lavender, and Valor to those I felt called to gift. I have also given partial bottles of Lavender, Joy, and Thieves among others. Again, this is as I have felt called to do, and I have not felt that it should be seen as anything more than giving a gift where I felt it could be used.

Today I want to give to thank you for supporting me and helping me reach a new rank. Normally when I give, it is with a specific goal the receiver wishes to accomplish. This is a little different. Today I am going to put up a giveaway for a specific oil and you can decide if it is right for your family or somebody you know. If you are selected, I would be happy to send you a 15ml bottle of Eucalyptus globulus. It is the perfect oil to combat the last of the winter and bound into the start of spring by supporting your respiratory system. The giveaway starts at 12:00am March 6th and ends  12:00am April 1st. Should this oil be unavailable for any reason, the winner will be sent a comparable oil. I will disclose this immediately, should a substitution occur. Winner must claim prize within 72 hours. Winner also promises to read the directions on the back of the bottle and use the oil as directed. If you have questions, please ask me. I value your safety and would be more than happy to help you along your oil journey. I would really love for this to go to somebody that has not tried Young Living oils before, but I will not make that a stipulation for the giveaway. If you have tried Young Living, but feel that this would truly bless your family, by all means, still enter.

With all of that said and done, good luck! Please be sure to share with your friends, as well. You never know who you may bless just by giving them the opportunity to enter.

What's In the Box? My February Order

After really enjoying seeing what others were getting in their boxes, I thought it would be fun to share what we get in our box (or in this month's case, boxes,) and why. Welcome to our February Essential Reward order! Essential Reward orders are important for our family for a couple of reasons. I use them to restock and get new oils at my discounted price. In addition to receiving the 24% distributor bonus, I receive points to use toward free products in the future, discounted shipping, and if I keep it above 100PV (Personal Volume, which is $100 most of the time,) I can earn commission on my team's orders. As if that wasn't enough, I can earn extra freebies, which I did this month! They will be the last portion of this post.

My kids get really excited when they see the FedEx truck pull up. When they see that Seed to Seal mark, they are even more thrilled. So am I. We love finding new ways to support our health, and we know that whatever is in these boxes will do just that. When they saw two boxes today, they could hardly control themselves!

After taking out the bubble packaging that keeps everything safe and sound, this is what I was left with. Tons of great products to help me reach my goals. Let's take a closer look at each one.

First out of the box was Inner Defense. This is a new product to our home, as are several of this month's goodies. Inner Defense is part of the O.I.L. infused promotion. With this and a couple of other products added to my order, I will get extra ER points to spend later. That extra incentive was a perfect way to move this from my want list to my order list.

Why was it on our list of things we wanted to try? We strongly believe that the best way to support a healthy lifestyle is starting on the inside and working our way out. After battling a fair share of illnesses since the weather started to get bad (and we weren't out in the sun to help build our immune system,) we decided we would like to try Inner Defense to help support the health of our immune systems. For the time being, I will be the only one taking Inner Defense.

Here's what Young Living says about Inner Defense:

"Young Living's Inner Defense liquid softgels reinforce systemic defenses, promote healthy respiratory function, and are rich in immune-supporting ingredients."

I have posted about Thieves Household Cleaner before. After trying it during a team challenge, we have decided that this is the right household cleaner for us. It has many, many uses, it has yet to let us down, and it doesn't have the harsh chemicals most brands do. We have used it for lighter jobs like cleaning the bathroom, as well as harsher jobs like cleaning the inside of the oven. We found it comparable to what we were using as far as power, and far superior with smell and ingredients. This is also part of the O.I.L. promotion! We were very excited to find out we could earn extra benefits buying what we already love.

The Thieves Hard Lozenges are something that I already had on my list of things to add to my E.R. order when the O.I.L. promotion came out. Again, we were excited to have something we were already going to order on the list of things with additional incentives. We haven't used these in the past, but with being sick a fair deal this winter, we decided to try these in place of buying candy or lozenges in the store. We are very excited at the prospect of getting rid of another synthetic filled product. I popped one in my mouth to give a taste review on the spot. Personally, I find it a little stronger than the toothpaste, but not unbearable. I think they are comparable in taste strength to most store brands, and I am very excited to replace the old brand with something better for my body.

The last of the O.I.L. Infused promotion items in my order this month is NingXia Nitro. Yet another product I was already planning to order! NingXia Nitro will replace the sugar and chemical cream loaded cup of coffee I normally drink when I first wake up. NingXia Nitro is meant to boost physical energy and mental clarity, which I need to thankfully and prayerfully start my day in the middle of 'Mommy, I needs.' I have more on the way, which were free with Essential Reward points! I'll be sure to let you know what I think of NingXia Nitro after I have a proper chance to try it.

Slique Slim Caps were part of my order this month because of my journey to lose fat and gain health. They are formulated to help me get the fiber I need and to help control my hunger. I am really excited to put them into action for the first time tomorrow morning! I will be sure to let you know what I think when I do an update post on my health journey at the end of the month.

These oils are commonplace in our orders, and we try very hard not to run out of them. Lavender is our go to for many, many situations. I use it to help myself relax, and it is the preferred relaxing oil for one of my children. We use it to uplift moods, promote skin health, sooth itchy spots, and many other things. R.C. is the oil we use to help support my daughter's respiratory system. With the use of R.C. to support natural health, we have been able to (with pediatrician approval,) discontinue daily treatments to try to build health through other means. In fact, since October 31, 2013, we have had only one incident that required medical treatment, which is a wonderful step in her health! Some people are uncomfortable using Eucalyptus on children, so please be sure to check with your pediatrician if you intend to use R.C.

These two oils are both new to us, and they were FREE!!! These oils were part of February's monthly promotion. These bottles of Thyme and Taste of Italy are 5ml bottles. Thyme is regularly available, but Taste of Italy was special and only available through this promotion. Each came with a product card that tells about the oil and gives recommendations for it. Did you know Thyme can be used during your normal dental routine? I didn't until I read it on the card!

Finally, I got a copy of the Essential Edge, which keeps me up to date with some of the things going on in the company. It is inspiring, informative, and well worth the read. This month's issue has suggestions about business building from a Crown Diamond member, tips for pregnancy, a message from D Gary Young, a recognition section, and more.

That's all that was in my box(es) this month. I would love to hear if you enjoy this type of post. Let me know below! I would also enjoy hearing about what you get in your boxes, if you don't mind sharing with me.

My Weight Loss Adventure Enhanced with Young Living Essential Oils

This is admittedly one of the hardest posts I have ever written. While I like to think of myself as a strong person that puts little stock in vanity and what others think of how I look, I am still a woman and I do still care, at least a little. Even more than my fears of publicly posting pictures, weight, and measurements, I want to be healthy again. I'm not really sure exactly where healthy is at this point in my life. I know it is not the 135 lbs I weighed when my husband and I met. Five pregnancies with three of my children weighing over 9 lbs at birth made sure of that. I also know it is not where I am right now. I am tired much of the day and my motivation level is almost nonexistent.

One of my core beliefs about getting healthy is that a diet or fad will not produce healthy results. Since I became pregnant with my first, my weight has been a in a constant state of motion. From 135 lbs to 195 lbs with my first. I managed to get back to 165 lbs before my second helped me go right back up to 185 lbs. My low weight since my oldest daughter's birth in 2006 was 151 lbs, and I didn't stay there long. Weight is not the only factor in health. I was still not exercising and was trying to stick to a 'diet' that fully cut out some foods I really enjoyed. I was still too tired to play with my kids like I want to be able to.

As of right now, this is me. My goal is to lose that double chin I have started and to replace some of my 'jiggles' with muscle. I will work on not only looking good (in my opinion; my husband already tells me I look good daily), but also on feeling good and being able to play with my family. My current weight is 172.5 lbs. I know this is not where I am meant to be. My goal is to continue to lose inches and gain fitness until I am at a place I am happy with. I want that smile to be real, not something my husband has to tell me to do for pictures.

This time I am tackling my health with a plan that involves more than the food I am eating. I will also be supported and accountable. My husband is wonderful and supportive, but he also loves to treat me to whatever I ask for on a whim, be it chips or a way out of working out. My Young Living family (and hopefully you, as well) will be helping me to keep my goals in sight and my willpower in check. This is not a challenge for me alone. It is a team challenge!

My first change is one of my morning rituals. When I first wake up, I typically reach for my cup of coffee sweetened with a creamer I know is not good for me. I will be cutting that cup of coffee out. Instead, I will be reaching for a tube of NingXia NITRO. I look forward to figuring out fun and exciting ways of enjoying it, but at least to start I will be ingesting NingXia NITRO directly out of the tube. NingXia NITRO is formulated to give that pick-me-up boost, as well as the mental boost I crave in the morning. It will also be a great immune system support for me.

Like most Americans, I have issues with getting enough water in my system during the day. I will be using a glass water bottle and adding a drop of whichever of the pictured oils I feel like at the time. I am aiming for filling my 'large' water bottle and drinking the entire thing four times a day.

I will also be taking Slique Slim Caps. One of the problems I currently have is often feeling hungry. When I do eat, I eat more than I really should. The Slique Slim Caps are meant to help with satiation, which means I should be less hungry throughout the day. As my weight melts away, I am satisfied with more appropriate portions, and my energy and stamina increase, I will look into using Slique Slim Caps less. For now, I feel they are an important part of my goals.

Finally, I will be setting aside time each day to exercise. While I do not plan to walk 10+ hours a day carrying extra weight like I did when my husband and I first met, I will be working on strengthening my core. I will be starting with three sets of 10 sit-ups, 10 push-ups, and 30 second planks. I will slowly work my way back up to three sets of 50 sit-ups, 50 push-ups, and 60+ second planks. I will also be alternating between cardio and yoga throughout the week.

I truly hope you will join my journey and even gain the courage and motivation to make a lifestyle change of your own. I would love to hear about a lifestyle change you are making.

I would be thrilled to welcome you to my team! You can go to https://www.youngliving.com/signup/?sponsorid=1540218&enrollerid=1540218 to sign up. As always, I am always happy to answer questions you have, and I love to read your comments!

Diffusing on the Go

I will admit to always having a set of oils in my purse. I never leave the house without EndoFlex for me, RC for my six year old, Lavender for everybody, Valor for when my children need more mental strength or my back feels 'off', Deep Relief for the headaches I can't prevent, and Purification for any boo boos that happen. How do I deal with a car full of tired, cranky kids and three rambunctious dogs outside our house, though? What about oils I want to inhale all day, but can't always access, like during jury duty or while wrangling children in the checkout line? There are travel diffusers for that, and I would love to show you a couple of options.

My favorite 'travel diffuser' for just me is a diffuser necklace. I have two, which are pictured above. They're simple and stylish, they add to whatever your look is, and nobody will even know you're diffusing! I will add a drop to mine at the start of the day, and I can normally still smell the oil at the end of the day, so it is long lasting. My heart locket opens to reveal a piece of fabric, which is where the oil goes. The second is a necklace directly from Young Living. One drop goes in the top of the ceramic bottle, which has a cotton ball to absorb and slowly release the oil.

Another option is Young Living's USB diffuser. Plug it in anywhere you have a USB port, and you get to choose how long each diffusing interval is. (10 seconds, 30 seconds, or a minute each interval.) This is a great option to discretely freshen the air in your office or refresh yourself while you work. There are several colors to pick from, so you can go with fun, bright colors like the purple above, or you can blend your diffuser with your laptop by choosing black or white.

Finally is the travel diffuser. This one works very much like commercial air fresheners, except without toxins. Pick the oil of your choice, add it to the insert, push the button, and relax.  This diffuser even comes with a small bottle of Lavender. It can be used pretty much anywhere. The inserts do need to be replaced from time to time or when changing oils, but this diffuser works great when you need the benefits of oils for more than one person or would prefer the look of store air fresheners.

Taking Massages to a Whole New Level

My husband's job is quite stressful, and we do make his monthly massage a priority, but that isn't always enough. By the time his appointment rolls around, his shoulders and back are knotted, and he is experiencing a decent amount of discomfort. His discomfort has largely led me to the decision that I would like to become a massage therapist, but while we figure out how to put me through college, I looked for essential oils to better the few basic massage techniques I do know.

The two oils we currently use are Ortho Ease and Relaxation. My plan was to use the Ortho Ease on my husband the days he came home with minor aches and pains, and the Relaxation would be for days I wanted to give him a massage 'just because.' When we tried them, we found out those plans wouldn't work quite as we had planned. My husband has very sensitive skin, and OrthoEase has enough Wintergreen to irritate it. Instead, he will use Ortho Ease on my back days I do more work or exercise more than I am used to. I find the warmth and kneading softens my tense muscles, as the tenderness melts away. Relaxation is perfect for my husband, though. The smell of the Lavender and the combined properties of all of the oils relax him while I knead his sore and tired muscles.

The Raindrop Technique Kit will be my next massage purchase.
Combining Aromatherapy, VitaFlex points, and massage, the
Raindrop Technique has helped many find mental, physical, and
emotional balance. The kit contains seven individual oils,
Ortho Ease, and a bottle of V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex. There is
also a DVD to show you how to properly do the Raindrop
Technique, because like any massage, technique is important to
be sure you are helping the body find balance and harmony.

With Valentines Day fast approaching,           Ortho Sport is a wonderful
an oil to think about is Sensation. Not            massage oil for athletes or
only does this oil promote healthy,                 those with physically
smooth skin, but it may also encourage          demanding work or play
feelings of romance. This would be a             lives. It's phenol content is
great oil to transition from a great dinner       higher than Ortho Sport,
to a sensual massage with the love of            which may bring a warming
your life.                                                        sensation to gently relieve                                                                           sore and tired muscles.
Cel-Lite Massage Oil boasts of many wonderful properties to help support the skin. There is grapefruit to help with texture, juniper to clean and detoxify, and others to help with nourishing
and toning. This oil is an amazing gift for anybody looking to support their skin health.

Dragon Time is one of those oils that would be a truly wonderful gift for the important women in your life. Whether you are looking for a massage oil that may help to calm and uplift during those rough times during the month, give an oil that can also be added to warm baths, or find something that helps to balance, sooth, and stabilize during a massage, this is the oil you are looking for.

Ways To Use Essential Oils

In the world of essential oils, there are many ways to use oils. Often, a single oil can be used in more than one way. This can be very confusing to newer users, so today we are going to discuss what the different ways are and what they mean.

The simplest way to use your oils is simply to apply them directly where you wish. This way of application is called 'neat.' Oils can be applied neat directly to the area you wish to use them, or they can be applied to 'Vita-flex' areas. The diagram below shows an example of where you may choose to put oils on your feet to support different parts of the body.

Another way to use an oil is to dilute or mix the oil with a carrier oil, such as Young Living V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex. The ratio you dilute each oil depends both on what the purpose is and the individual needs of the person you will be using the oil on. People with more sensitive skin and children will probably wish to have the oils more diluted.

You can also diffuse oils. For this method, you will need a diffuser. The concentration of oil to water will again depend on the use and the person or people the oil is diffused around. In our family, I will normally add 10 drops of Lavender to the kids' diffusers before bed. If I am trying to support their respiratory systems with R.C. and Eucalyptus or any other combination, that number will normally increase.

Additionally, some people choose to take essential oils internally as supplements. While I personally do take Young Living Essential Oils internally, I strongly encourage educating yourself about what you are introducing into your body and how to do it. While many Young Living Essential Oils are marked as dietary supplements, not all are. In addition, many oils that are labeled as pure essential oils are not approved as a dietary supplement. Internally taking essential oils will often include diluting the oils in the capsule before ingesting.

Many essential oils are wonderful for cooking. Our family uses Basil oil and Oregano oil to make our own pizza sauce. Be careful, though! A little goes a long way! One suggested way to add oils, at least until you figure out exactly how much of an oil you need, is to dip a toothpick in the bottle, then stir that small amount into your recipe. Taste test that small amount before adding more. I will often hold the back of a clean spoon firmly to the stopper of the bottle, quickly flip the spoon and bottle upside down and back up, then stir that in. I seldom need more. Keep in mind, I cook for a family of seven, so we make big batches. Again, I also encourage you to be 100% sure you are using oils marked as dietary supplements in anything you intend to eat.

You can also use essential oils in a variety of do it yourself projects like deodorants and shaving creams. I will be posting some of the things we make in the future, but if you're looking to make some now, you can easily do a search to find many great ways you can make your own products.

These are just a few of the varied uses for essential oils. If you have any other methods, feel free to share them with everyone in the comment section below.

DiGize And The I Love You Massage For Tummy Aches

As a first time mother, I wanted to do everything right. I read books, researched online, and made a list of all of the things I would and would not do as a mother. Much of my research and planning went out the window soon after that little bundle of squirms and wiggles was handed to me. One thing I do continue to use with all of my babies, even as they have grown, is the infant massage course I took with that first tiny baby. The class taught me basic massages that have comforted my children through stress, gassy bellies, and other times of need. Some of them have also worked for my husband. Since finding Young Living, I have added essential oils to our massages, depending on which body system most needed support. Today I would like to address the "I Love You" massage and how we have supplemented it with Di-Gize.

DiGize is described on the Young Living website as follows: "Di-Gize™ is a dietary supplement that provides valuable aid for digestive concerns and helps support a healthy digestive system." With that in mind, I began to add a drop of DiGize to 1/4 teaspoon of organic coconut oil to massage on little tummies for most stomach complaint massages.

To begin, I have the child requesting a massage lie down on a blanket. (This is one of those massages that works well for adults, too!) For the "I Love You" massage, the child or baby will be on his or her back with nothing covering the tummy area. Next, I put some of the coconut oil and Di-Gize mixture on my hands to warm it. Finally, I begin to gently massage, repeating the simple words and steps, keeping in mind that this massage is meant to help the intestines and traces them with each step.

I - The first step is a simple stroke that lovingly draws an I along the left side of the recipient. The I goes from a little below the rib cage to just above the pelvic bone.
Love - The second step is an upside down L. I start at the right side of my child's stomach, a little below the rib cage, and I draw a line across to the left. Then my hand will continue in one fluid motion down the left side.
You- The third step is an upside down U. Starting just above the pelvic bone on the child's right, I draw a line up to just below the ribs, curve the line across the upper stomach, then do a final curve to bring the line down to just above the left pelvic bone.

I repeat the steps as needed. Normally 6-8 repetitions helps tremendously. I will often feel a gas bubble moving. Sometimes that bubble will even move entirely out of the body during the massage. Other times it will dissipate naturally within the intestines.

For a more detailed or visual explanation, there are many videos on YouTube. Please be sure to look for somebody that is certified! This massage with DiGize as a supplemental oil has been wonderful for my family, but safety is always top priority! Be sure to ask your pediatrician (or doctor for adults) before using any supplements and to be sure massage is safe for your loved one. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA.
